I may or may not have skipped two days. Oh well. Lupin reviews up next in my queue because the show is awesome.

Match 17

Site type: Shitty anime opinions.

Thoughts:

http://nopybot.com/2012/04/19/saya-no-uta-beautifully-grotesque-or-grotesquely-beautiful/

What godawful shitty writing. Goddamn.

what is insanity? is beauty really in the eye of the beholder? and can someone or something truly be evil? If you are the only one that sees the world differently from everyone else, does that make you insane, or is the world insane? Can a person be beautiful if they’re so repulsive that no one else can stand them? Are monsters the evil ones, or should we look within ourselves to find true evil? The answers to these questions may be more terrifying than you can imagine.

The entire article is filled with questions like these and then the author finishes off with

I highly recommend Saya no Uta to mature readers seeking a story that questions perceptions and defies morals.

Fuck you, bro. Sure, Saya no Uta is great. But you didn’t fucking review the VN. All you fucking did was throw down bullshit questions with the expectation that your readers will find the lack of opinions, content, and thought to be a good thing. Fuck you.

Overall rating: Is the author a retard or is he simply retarded?

Site type: Shitty opinions.

Thoughts: Can we all just agree that blogs which treat Avatar as an anime are invalid?

Overall rating: Nice try, but this is an anime blog tourney. The “anime” part stands for “anime”.

Match 18

http://www.maserbeam.com/

Site type: Shitty anime opinions.

Thoughts:

Maserbeam is an interesting site. It allowed me to answer the question “How long can I stay on a site which does nothing but offend my eyes?” The answer? Long enough to take this screenshot and not a second more.

Overall rating: I’ll give it a rating as soon as I finish throwing up.

http://loli.animeblogger.net/

Site type: Shitty anime opinions + refined musical taste.

Thoughts:

Oh yeah, this is the blog with the Exit Trance and other music-related stuff. I’ll go more into depth on the site’s content or whatever when it appears in the next round.

Overall rating: Salad’s all right.

Match 19

http://www.animevision.co.uk/

Site type: Shitty DVD/BD reviews.

Thoughts:

http://www.animevision.co.uk/reviews-archive-mainmenu-2/blu-ray-mainmenu-75/4519-madoka02.html

They don’t review the packaging, value, or contents of the DVDs/BDs they bought. So this is basically just an anime review site without screenshots (that’s right, no pictures in these here reviews).

They do talk about other anime stuff too, but if your niche is the DVD/BD reviews and you fail at that… your site pretty much falls apart.

Overall rating: What’s the fucking point?

Site type: Shitty anime opinions.

Thoughts:

http://akirascuro.wordpress.com/2012/05/03/friendship-in-the-age-of-k-on/

Haha, what? The author here talks about how Natsuiro Kiseki is super awesome and unique because it features high school girls on summer vacation instead of at school. Really, guy?

He then goes on to argue that Natsuiro is great because

Its world is absurd, governed by rules that we don’t understand.

Are you fucking kidding me? A high-school-girls, slice-of-life anime where the only abnormal thing is a rock that supposedly grants silly wishes like “friendship” and “holding hands” is your definition of absurdity? Fucking moron.

Overall rating: Stupid shit, stupid site.

Match 20

http://hanners-anime.blogspot.com/

Site type: Shitty anime opinions.

Thoughts:

http://hanners-anime.blogspot.com/2012/05/eureka-seven-ao-episode-4.html

I tried reading an article, but with a first paragraph like this

Given the failure of his attempts to lay low failed in pretty short order, I suppose it’s only sensible that Ao’s next plan is to go all out and attack the massive Secret threatening the island using his Mark I IFO – and by sensible, I mean the perfect excuse for a little kick-ass mecha action.

I fail to see how reading more would be anything but a waste of my time.

Overall rating: I think this is the only site I’ve seen in this tournament where
I was turned away by the first sentence I read.

http://sekijitsu.com/

Site type: Shitty anime opinions.

Thoughts:

If there’s anything to be said about Sekijitsu, it’s that the site is polished. It looks built to maintain a large community, and from the amount of posts they make, it will probably be able to handle that very well.

http://sekijitsu.com/2012/04/30/ib/

It’s not that the articles are well written (they’re not); the blog simply has a wealth of content. The “ib” article I linked is just one example. They reviewed an obscure fan-translated video game. That’s not something you often get on sites like these. They also have a number of other articles to wash down the taste of their shitty episodic reviews. It’s enough to get a pass from me for this round, but I’ll go more into depth why the site sucks when they get to the next round.

Overall rating: It’s got a lot of stuff, I guess.

tl;dr: Stuff.

  1. “Shitty anime opinions + refined musical taste.” Sounds pretty legit. So only the music reviews were good, eh?

  2. I can’t help but wonder if you read the entirety of the Natsuiro Kiseki article. One of the article’s main focuses was about how the show portrays cute girls with a more realistic relationship, where things aren’t rainbow cupcakes and unicorns every day.

    • That was one point he made, yes. But he also made other points which were quite stupid. What, did you want me to focus on the few things he said that were right?

“Oh, his article was great because he noted the main characters were high school girls. A+ to his blog!”

  3. Dark_Sage you should become a politician and sort the fucking world out :) I can imagine it now… “Carbon tax? fuck that shit” “Unemployment? fucking get them building roads” “Poverty? Send a shitload of instant noodles to ethiopia”… Sorted.

I read the article. An essay involving these topics would be quite interesting to read if he/she fleshed it out in terms of the narrative more. Instead, all of the interesting questions were piled together in one paragraph instead of addressed individually with specific instances.

    • I can’t argue with that. I was still stuck in 30-minute BS mode after writing my exam, which was exactly what that post was. It brought in more traffic than I thought it would so I reposted it and changed the topic to Shining Hearts to see what would happen.
